(Bugout.news) One of the most popular TV shows currently on the air is AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” which – as the headline above suggests – is about people surviving in a zombie apocalypse.
Though the show is fiction, a scenario where you may someday have to fend for yourself is not so far-fetched. Pandemics have existed throughout our history, and though modern medicine is advanced, there are never any guarantees the human race won’t someday face a virus or superbug we can’t kill. What then? Death on a massive scale, with survivors left to pick up the pieces and rebuild society.
The same is true for an economic meltdown, something far worse than the Great Depression of the 1930s and the Great Recession of 2007-09 (some ill effects of which are still lingering).
What about global conflict? A massive war that kills tens of millions, or even billions, with nothing left but over-radiated wastelands. Survivors will be left with virtually no social structure at all.
Though many of us have been prepping for some time, we will never really know if we are “ready” for a society-ending scenario until it happens. Only then will realize that we didn’t know as much about certain lifesaving skills that we thought we did, or that we weren’t in as good of physical condition as we thought, or that the gear we bought won’t hold up to real-work challenges. So, from time to time, it is a good idea to sort of “review” where we are in our prepping process, to gauge how prepared we actually are and what we need to do to get better prepared.
Fortunately, Buzzfeed has published a long list of preparation statements that you can check off if they apply to you. The more of them you check off, the more prepared you are.
Statements include:
Do I like camping?
I can start a fire.
I can start a fire from scratch.
I am in pretty good shape.
I can carry (50,75,100, 150) pounds.
I know what poison oak looks like.
I can tell the difference between edible mushrooms and poisonous ones.
I know how to hunt.
I can walk long distances.
I can run fast.
I know how to use a rifle.
I can hunt.
I work best in a group.
And so on.
So, just how prepared are you? Take the Buzzfeed survey and find out. It’s a great way to gauge your preparedness and let you know what you need to work on in order to survive an apocalyptic situation that will likely pit survivor against survivor at some point.
