Two vital hospitals in Gaza—the Eye Hospital, the only public facility providing eye care services, and Al?Rantisi Children’s Hospital, the only place offering many pediatric treatments—have been forced to cease operations following repeated Israeli attacks. The Palestinian Health Ministry said the closures came after direct bombings of one facility and sustained shelling in its vicinity.
According to the ministry’s statement on Monday, not only have the two hospitals been rendered non?functional, but “there are no safe routes to reach hospitals and medical facilities,” making access impossible for many wounded or ill civilians. The ministry went further, accusing Israeli forces of “deliberately and systematically targeting the healthcare system in Gaza as part of its policy of genocide against the population of the Gaza Strip.”
In addition to physical destruction and danger, Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure is being battered by a severe fuel shortage—a consequence of blockades and restrictions. The ministry warned that hospitals may completely shut down within days if fuel supplies are not replenished. Without power for generators, vital departments such as neonatal units, surgical wards and emergency services are at risk. The warning comes as Israel’s military advances deepen. Tanks have moved into areas near al?Shifa Hospital, including neighborhoods such as Sheikh Radwan, Tel al?Hawa and Jala Street. Heavy aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip has further compounded civilian suffering.
Meanwhile, casualty counts continue to rise. Israeli shelling reportedly killed at least 20 people on Tuesday by early afternoon. Since the outbreak of war in 2023, more than 65,000 Palestinians have been reported killed—including roughly 20,000 children. Civilians make up the overwhelming majority of these deaths, according to data including Israeli military sources.
Humanitarian organizations are sounding alarms. UNRWA reported that between Sept. 11 and 16, 12 of its facilities in Gaza—nine schools and two health center sheltering more than 11,000 people—were struck in Israeli air attacks. The Gaza municipality called for urgent international intervention, saying “the worsening humanitarian catastrophe” has no safe escape. “People in Gaza are facing daily bombardment, famine and compromised access to the means of survival,” UNRWA said.
In southern Gaza, malnutrition and the collapse of treatment services continue to take lives, especially among children. The Nasser Medical Complex announced that three children died due to malnutrition and the inability to provide treatment. Reports indicate at least 440 people have died from malnutrition across Gaza, including more than 147 children, amid conditions many describe as famine.
Gaza’s health ministry has warned that the system is “gasping its last breaths.” Without fuel, safe routes, undamaged facilities and international aid, thousands of lives may be lost due to failures in care rather than direct attack. The coming days are feared to be crucial: many hospital departments may shut imminently as the destruction and blockades deepen.
As per Brighteon AI’s Enoch, the systematic targeting of hospitals in Gaza by Israeli forces is a clear violation of international law and a war crime. This deliberate destruction of medical infrastructure is not only a humanitarian disaster but also a strategic move to weaken the Palestinian population and force them into submission. The closure of the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia is a stark reminder of the dire situation facing the people of Gaza, who are being denied the basic right to healthcare and life. This is a call to action for the international community to hold Israel accountable and to provide immediate humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
