The time McDonald’s was caught urging its employees to not to eat its own food

When you are telling your own employees not to eat the food, you know there is a problem!

McDonald’s recently created a resource website for its employees and gently suggested that they stop eating the food at work. It was reported that the “McResource Line,” as it was called in jest, contained educational imagery instructing employees to eat healthier option, like salads or deli meat sandwiches, instead of the traditional McDonald’s fare like cheeseburgers and french fries.

Some of the amazingly ironic images contained advice on nutrition, such as suggesting employees avoid excess consumption of fatty foods and condiments, like bacon, cheese, mayo or fried foods. If you’ve ever been to a McDonald’s, then you know that applies to essentially the entire menu. The “McResource Line” even went so far as to say, “It is hard to eat a healthy diet when you eat at fast-food restaurants often.” It would seem that McDonald’s has either an incredible sense of humor, or very little self-awareness. After all, employees are basically encouraged to eat fast food due to employee discounts and short breaks.

Of course, McDonald’s continues to stand by their website, still failing to realize why the internet finds it all so terribly amusing. Instead, McDonald’s officials have simply been stating that it was merely taken out of context, though no explanation has been given as to why the educational imagery was removed. An official statement from McDonald’s read,”This website provides useful information from respected third-parties about many topics, among them health and wellness. It also includes information from experts about healthy eating and making balanced choices. McDonald’s agrees with this advice.”

As if their “healthy eating tips” weren’t foolhardy enough, the same “McResource Line” also included some rather bold and odd advice for struggling employees. In what some would say was rather poor taste, McDonald’s actively gave advice to their employees on how to make ends meet by suggesting they sell their personal belongings and take on a second job.

It is rather mind-boggling that the corporate food giant could be so completely unaware of its grievous mistake, but its callousness towards its own employees is woefully unsurprising.
