Thin privilege: The newest liberal guilt trip… branding healthy eating and weight loss as ‘social constructs’

Fat-Scale-Weight-Shoes-Overweight-Obese

To left-wing academics, nothing – and we mean nothing – makes them happy. They complain about everything, find fault in everything and foster suspicion and division among the American people at every possible opportunity. In short, some of them may very well fit the clinical definition of insanity.

Take the latest charge by a liberal hack who spoke at the University of Minnesota (a state that has been trending bluer and bluer for a decade) recently. Talking to students at the university’s School of Public Health, in recognition of “International No Diet Day” (apparently, that’s a real thing), Virgie Tovar, a self-proclaimed “fat activist,” spoke about the finer points of “fat oppression,” according to the website Heat Street.

Tovar’s talk, entitled “Dispelling Myths: Fat, Fatphobia, and Challenging Social Stereotypes,” aims, ostensibly, to help students understand that “fat phobia” is rampant in a “white, heteronormative society” (you knew that was coming – everything in America can be blamed on white heterosexual males, don’t you know) that is looking to actively oppress people with larger body types. Yes, because we white, hetero males don’t have anything better to do every day except look for minorities to oppress, gays to make fun of and, now, fat people to “shame.” Forget that trying to earn a living thing; we’re all filthy rich because we stole our way to the top by keeping women down (when we weren’t sexually abusing them), enslaving poor people and destroying the planet.

As noted by Heat Street, this Berkeley lecturer (charlatan) claimed:

Society’s bias against fat people is, apparently, a form of bigotry and discrimination, evident in everything from sexual preferences to the size of seats on public transportation.

She even, reportedly, compared society’s anti-fat culture to so-called “rape culture,” and chastised society for its obsession with what she termed “thin privilege.”

Right. White, fat-shaming rapists. Got it.

Tovar intoned that the Minnesota students, studying at one of the top 10 schools for public health, should never dare to recommend that people lose weight or fight obesity in any meaningful way, no. Because those kinds of recommendations merely feed into the stereotype, you see, and anyway, any public health professional who would even recommend dieting and weight loss to someone wouldn’t be doing so out of concern for that person’s overall health (obesity is the leading cause of heart disease and diabetes, mind you) is just cruel. And let’s not forget the costs of obesity and the wide range of health problems it causes – a very real and growing problem among modern welfare states (like the U.S. and countries in Europe).

No. Even if being thinner and shedding pounds is in the health interests of a person, Tovar says to the budding dietary and public health professionals that they shouldn’t do it.

“Weight loss is not a realistic goal for most people,” she said, declaring that exercise and diets are “social constructs.” She implored her audience to “lose hate, not weight” and rebel against “diet culture.”

So in other words, your poor habits are not your fault and so therefore you should not be expected to correct what isn’t your fault to begin with. Even if the public has to pay to care for your obese, diseased self.

Only a Left-wing maniac uses this kind of insane circular logic.

No surprise, noted Heat Street further: Tovar, who lists her occupation as “fat activist,” has a Masters in Human Sexuality—with a focus on the “intersection of body size, race and gender”—and taught at the University of California, at Berkeley, where that is considered an actual academic field of study.

No wonder she “lectures.” What else would such a goofy degree prepare her to do?

As the nation struggles with rising levels of obesity – even to the point where it is harming national security – we’ve got lunatics like Tovar running around telling public health professionals that they’re mean and nasty if they inform anyone about the health risks associated with obesity and how to take corrective action.

Thin privilege you know, you white, serial rapist.
