North Korea has been barking for so long that nobody seems to fear the possibility that one of these days, they just might bite. Like the classic tale of the boy who cried wolf, there are only so many times you can claim you’re going to wage war on the rest of the world before you finally have to do it or face the negative consequences.
Similarly, the threat of nuclear warfare has been on the horizon for quite some time. Since nuclear weaponry became a common commodity, people assumed that it would only be a matter of time before one of the world’s powers began jawing back and forth with various threats. They were correct, and for the past few decades, everyone from North Korea to Russia has been experimenting with nuclear missiles.
Things have grown expectedly hostile in the years that followed. After all, there’s a very logical reason to be paranoid when every country that may take issue with your policies has world-changing nuclear weapons at their disposal. Firing such weapons would surely lead to a complete destruction of the world. A destruction that nobody is prepared for.
Recently, North Korean officials have stated that they are more than prepared to engage in such warfare due to implied provocations from the United States.
As reported by Jon Dean of UK publication Mirror, “North Korea set off its most powerful nuclear blast to date this month, saying it had mastered the ability to mount a warhead on a ballistic missile and ratcheting up a threat that its rivals and the United Nations have been powerless to contain.”
In a lot of ways, it’s difficult to take such threats seriously, as we’ve come so accustomed to hearing Kim Jong-un and his father before him claim that they are going to destroy the entire world for opposing him. Nothing has ever come of their threats, so there’s been little to no reason to take them seriously at all.
And yet, they are still a legitimate threat due to the fact that they have nuclear missiles in their arsenal. As difficult as it may be, the United States government — and its freedom-loving citizens — need to start taking these events much more seriously. We’re facing difficult, frightening times ahead and its only logical to consider all the possibilities, regardless of likelihood.
From Syria to North Korea and all the way back to our own soil, there are massive issues facing the wellbeing of our planet today. If we want to survive and flourish in such an environment, we must prepare ourselves for the absolute worst. It’s obvious that our federal government won’t take those precautions for us.
