Buzz Feed recently set their sights on a Christian couple with quite a following at HGTV. Chip and Joanna Gaines are the hosts of the very popular show called Fixer Upper, which is just about to start its fourth season. So what’s the beef? In the land of ever dwindling religious freedom, as reported by Daily Wire, the Gaines were not called out for using toxic chemicals. They were not discovered as lying cheats who rip off their customers. They were not called out for shoddy business practices.
They were called out because their pastor, Jimmy Seibert, who oversees the Antioch Community Church they attend, believes what the Bible says about marriage. Buzz Feed was somewhat appalled by Seibert and his church’s “severe, unmoving position … on same-sex marriage.” They just can’t understand that Pastor Seibert doesn’t give two cents about what the U.S. Supreme Court says about marriage, because he believes there is a higher law in Genesis through Revelation written long before the Supreme Court existed.
And so, the Gaines’ are guilty by association. And since they didn’t instantaneously respond to inquires, they must be double guilty of this heinous thought crime. How quickly Buzz Feed must judge those who dare not conform to the their standard of righteousness. While HGTV did respond, assuring the site that there is no LGBT discrimination on any of their shows, Chip Gaines went about the business of birthing goats.
According to Reference.com, there are 4,200 different religions existing in today’s world, with 11 at the top of the charts. Christianity is in this top tier, as is Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Baha’i, Taoism, Jainism, Shintoism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Zoroastrianism. Regardless of how old any of these belief systems are, one could logically conclude that they expanded their membership rosters because people could reproduce after their own kind. That takes a male and a female. Billions around the globe still call that marriage, regardless of what the U.S. Supreme Court decrees. Could be quite a number of atheists and agnostics would agree, but the writers at Buzz Feed may still be quite upset about a belief and reproductive system that’s been around a few millennia longer then their nifty publication.
Maybe they ought to go find a safe space until every one they disagree with goes away.
