After it was discovered earlier in the week that hackers had inserted Trojan Horse malware into the SolarWinds Orion security software used by a large swath of government agencies, the Pentagon issued an emergency memo calling for the immediate shutdown of a classified internal communications network known as the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET).
SIPRNET, for those unfamiliar with it, handles the transmission of classified information between government agencies. The Pentagon itself uses it, as does the State Department, the National Security Agency (NSA), the Department of Justice (DOJ), NASA, NOAA, and even the United States Postal Service (USPS).
Three Defense Department sources reportedly confirmed that SIPRNET was shut down, and during the day, no less, which is apparently unprecedented. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was apparently breached by the hack, as were other key federal agencies.
The Department of Defense (DOD) notified its employees that the late morning shutdown was occurring because of an emergency software update. The Pentagon, however, when pressed for further information by Just the News about whether the shutdown was related to the hacking incident, did not immediately return a request for comment.
“This has never happened in the middle of a work day,” one Pentagon official did reportedly relay. “Updates usually are done on weekends and after hours late at night. This was done on an emergency basis.”
The shutdown persisted for several hours before the network was eventually restored. It also did not apply to other computers or phone systems beyond the ones that use SolarWinds.
The official story is that Russia was supposedly behind the hack, which DHS says “poses a grave risk to the Federal Government and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments as well as critical infrastructure entities and other private sector organizations.”
Others within the administration are more vaguely referring to “a foreign government” as the culprit, which would more accurately seem to be communist China based on everything that has culminated this past year.
As we reported, Dominion Voting Systems, which uses SolarWinds software, has deep financial ties to communist China.
Silver Lake Partners, the primary shareholder of SolarWinds, is also heavily invested in communist China. Some reports suggest that Silver Lake’s Chinese investments are currently in excess of $1 trillion.
With that said, it is interesting that the official narrative pegs Russia as the hacking culprit. Thus far, there is no actual evidence linking Russia to the hack, but to everyone who followed and believed the mainstream media’s “Russian collusion” hoax, it naturally follows that Vladimir Putin would also be blamed for this latest attack against our national infrastructure.
Perhaps both China and Russia were involved, but to shield China completely while exclusively blaming Russia reeks of a propaganda coverup. Many article commenters agree, suggesting that the SolarWinds Orion hack is just the latest manifestation of communist Chinese aggression against the United States.
“There are lots of elements in play here,” wrote one Citizen Free Press commenter about the situation.
“The CISA guy said election was most secure in history and got fired by Trump … Claims that white hats got the traffic to Frankfurt … Claims Dominion used SolarWinds … Treasury was hacked … FireEye was hacked and they narrowed it to SolarWinds Orion, the brain of that suite … FireEye monitors apps. SolarWinds monitors network traffic and can record it,” and a whole lot more, this same commenter added.
