The state of California is suffering from an energy shortage and will be sending out emergency alerts ahead of a hot Labor Day weekend. Temperatures in Northern California are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s. In Southern California, temperatures could rise to 100 degrees. Sacramento Valley could see temperature as high as 114 on Labor Day. This will cause the peak energy demand to surpass 48,000 megawatts, the greatest peak of the year.
The California Independent System Operator, which manages the state’s power grid, warned residents to conserve electricity over the coming holiday weekend. The grid manager issued “restricted maintenance operations” – directing power generators and transmission line operators to delay routine maintenance to avoid taking transmission equipment offline. California may try to import power form neighboring states, but this move will likely be blocked because all the Western states are experiencing peak temperatures and high energy demand, too.
Additionally, a series of Flex Alerts will be issued in the lead-up to the Labor Day weekend. These Flex Alerts call for all residents to turn their thermostats up to 78 degrees or higher and avoid using large appliances during peak time (4-9 PM). Residents are also being instructed NOT to charge their electric vehicles (EV). California’s current power grid cannot handle air conditioning, appliances and electric vehicles. How will the state’s power grid handle its EV mandate in the coming years?
California’s announcement of coming blackouts comes on the heels of another wild move made by California Democrats. The Democrats in California just put a ban on sales of gas- and diesel-powered vehicles by 2035. Over the next decade, the state will end all private transactions of gas-powered vehicles. People who sell used cars will have to do it on a new black market or go out of state.
As the state forces residents to own electric and hydrogen powered vehicles, the power grid will be burdened with hundreds of thousands of new energy demands. The Democrats’ electric vehicle mandate will overburden the energy grid, allowing the government to impose restrictions and conditions for energy use. Soon, the freedom and autonomy of gas-powered vehicles will be a thing of the past. In just a short decade, Californians will look back and lament the good ole days of driving the vehicles they want – vehicles with power, vehicles that work, vehicles that can be driven without the government’s permission.
Before the Democrat’s take total control over the auto industry with their mandates, they will likely cause rolling blackouts and expensive spikes in energy costs that drive people out of business and out onto the streets. This is currently happening in Europe. The Democrats’ EV utopia could backfire, forcing hordes of people to go without heating, air conditioning and basic electricity. It’s a return to the dark ages, and it’s all being done in the name of combating climate change.
To make matters worse, California has shuttered most of its nuclear power plants, and now they depend heavily on wind and solar power. Just two years ago, the state’s disgraced governor, Gavin Newsom told Californians to “sober up” about the failings of solar and wind power in keeping up with energy demands across the state. These green energy sources alone are incapable of compensating for the expansions that will be needed to keep mandated EVs charged up. According to the Chronicle, the California power grid will need to be expanded by 30 percent over the next decade to power the EV mandate. Even so, the risk of rolling blackouts will be ongoing as the Democrat mandates make life even more miserable than before.
