A Michigan auto worker has warned that “America is done for” if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the presidency in November.
In a candid interview with a CNN reporter on July 28, two Michigan auto workers and supporters of former President Donald Trump did not hold back when asked if Harris’ entry into the 2024 presidential election would change anything for them.
“America is done for if Kamala Harris wins the presidency,” he stated bluntly.
The sentiment was shared by another Trump supporter standing nearby, reflecting a deep-seated apprehension about Harris’ policies and leadership.
“Change it? It ruins it. She gets in – we’re done,” said the other.
Michigan, with its significant auto industry workforce, has been a battleground state where issues like job security, economic policies and manufacturing have been front and center. So, the comments underscore voters’ concerns about the direction Harris might take the country.
The video of these candid opinions, which highlight the polarized nature of American politics, has since circulated widely on social media.
In March, even Trump himself warned the public during a rally in Dayton, Ohio that a “bloodbath” would happen in the automobile industry if the Democrats prevail in November.
“Now if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it,” Trump said during the rally. “It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That will be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars. They’re building massive factories. If this election isn’t won, I’m not sure that you’ll ever have another election in this country.” (Related: Trump campaign files FEC complaint over ILLEGAL transfer of $91.5M Biden campaign fund to Harris campaign.)
The comment was part of an extended discussion on the auto industry, unions, the transition to electric vehicles and auto plants in Mexico.
Trump sought to attract autoworkers and appeal to voters in Rust Belt states by focusing on trade, tariffs and EV manufacturing. Trump also stated that he would implement a 50 percent tariff on cars produced in Chinese plants in Mexico. Trump wants more tariffs. His previous trade wars have cost Americans $230 billion to date.
So, Trump pledged a “100 percent tariff” on cars manufactured outside the United States, claiming that domestic auto manufacturing would be safeguarded only if he is elected.
“If you’re listening, President Xi – and you and I are friends – but he understands the way I deal. Those big monster car manufacturing plants that you’re building in Mexico right now … you’re going to not hire Americans and you’re going to sell the cars to us, no. We’re going to put a 100 percent tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those cars if I get elected,” Trump said during the same event.
